D'oh

The morning after putting my second-ever batch in primary. Considering the first one didn't even gurgle, not sure if this is a step in the right or wrong direction.

it's fine. just switch to a blow-off tube before that clogs.

Me likey.

I'd just clean the airlock out every day or two until it clears.

Yep, that's what I did. It has chilled out now. Homebrewers in effect!

What yeast did you use? I get that reaction from some Belgian yeasts, particularly Trappist/Abbey yeasts. I switched to a 6.5 gallon carboy to avoid using a blowoff tube, but then as soon as I started experimenting with yeasts other than the California Ale yeast, I had to start using one again (not that I mind).

Just wait till the time you come home and find the lid halfway across the room. BTW, the beer turned out fine.

Well here's the kooky thing. When I told the guy at Brewcraft that my first batch seemed to not ferment properly likely since I pitched an ale yeast but it was 62 degrees in my closet, he suggest I use both the ale AND SF Lager yeast. But I didn't chill it down sufficiently in the ice bath b/c the fermometer read 77 for a day (down to 72 now). Brew'n'learn.
